The Headmaster of Ankaase Presby Junior High School in Ghana, Mr. Isaac Horvey gave an update on the WASH situation in his school at the High Level Meeting (HLM) on WASH in Schools (WinS) organised by Centre for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (formerly Centre for Development Partnerships and Innovations). He acknowledged the importance of the gender-separated and disable-friendly School KVIP latrines constructed for the school by Centre for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene as part of the Atiwa WASH Project Phase II and indicated that they have started using and maintaining them very well. He recounted efforts being made by the school to provide cleaning agents and materials for regular cleaning of the school latrines. He recognised the effort made by the project to supply running water for handwashing after using the latrines, and for menstrual hygiene management. He announced that the school had made provision for some sanitary pads to support girls who might need it in times of emergency menstruation. Mr. Horvey underscored the high level of interest shown by Ankaase Presby JHS in WinS activities. He observed that his school has participated in a number of WASH events organised by Centre for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene with support from Ernst Peyer Foundation of Switzerland and noted the the consistency with which his school (i.e. Ankaase Presby Junior High School) emerged winners/champions in the quizzes and essay competitions organised on WASH on different occasions and venues.
