Chief Imam of Frimponso-Ghana on the importance of improved household latrines

Not having a latrine for my household gave me a lot of headache as my children defecated indiscriminately around the house. I also feel ashamed when I have visitors and had to give them cutlass to go into the bush when they needed to defecate. I tried and dug a shallow unimproved pit latrine but it got full too quickly and I had to dig a new one. Chickens also enter the latrine and come out roaming around the house with the faeces all around their feet. I made a decision to build a proper latrine for my household in 2015 and I dug the pit but could not complete it due to financial problems. That was why I readily took advantage of the sanitation project of CDPI in 2018 and now, my household has an improved latrine which everyone is happily using. This has stopped the indiscriminate defecation by members of my household. My wife, Adiza assisted by my daughter, Taibatu clean the latrine every morning and also makes sure that the tippy tap has water and soap for handwashing.
